Adding your phone number to Twitter
June 15th, 2009 Posted by Missie at 7:09 pm
Twitter is awesome. But using twitter anywhere from your phone is even better. Twitter allows you to send a text message from your phone which will be posted to your profile just like a normal tweet you would send from the web or third party application.
Adding your phone number
So what do you need to get started? Well, you’ll a mobile and a twitter account. To add your phone number to twitter, you’ll need to follow these simple steps;
1. Log in to Twitter
2. In the upper right hand navigation bar, click Settings
3. Click the third settings tab, Devices
4. Add your phone number to the field. Once you’ve added the number, twitter will send you a verification code.
5. Send the verification code in a text message to twitter to connect to your phone to your account. If you refresh the page and the code I gone, your phone is verified.
6. Try it out! Send a tweet to twitter.
Tweeterland tip: To get tweets from others, make sure you visit the profile pages of people you follow, and turn text updates ON in the following drop down box. Send ON to Twitter, and check out these other phone commands to see how to turn texts on and off per person.
What are the Twitter phone numbers?

Hi Ambrish,
Since the India code is still in beta, you’ll need to try the international number - +44 762 4801423. If you’re having more difficulties, I would recommend contacting twitter directly.
Hope this helps,

Tweeterland is a great website! I’m learning a lot of new stuff about Twitter.
I also would like to know how will I be charged using this feature. I need to use the international number, does that mean my mobile company will charge my text message as one of.. ? What country 44 stands for?
Thanks a lot! And congratulations on the great job!

Hi Fabiana,
Thank you for your comment and your kind words about our website. In regards to being charged using this feature, you will need to investigate this with your mobile provider or carrier as each company charges differently in each country. General standard rates apply, so using this feature shouldn’t be too much more than standard SMS rates. But before you sign up and start receiving notifications from Twitter, investigate the costing first just to save a big nasty bill.
The examples such as +447781488126 is a number an area code for mobiles in Great Britain. This is just used as an example on twitter.
Hope this helps! Thanks for your question.

Hello, Missie!
Thanks for your fast response.
Well, it’s not that much to send an international SMS so I think I’m going to try it once and see how it works.
Have a good day!

I just got this from Twitter: “Note: We currently don’t support sending SMS to this number.”
Too bad, gotta find another way to tweet using SMS.

Hey Fabiana,
Does your mobile support a third party twitter client such a twitteriffic or pocket phone? We’ve got a list of clients that your phone may support that could replace using sms to tweet - http://tweeterland.com/twitter-applications/ - just under the ‘Twitter on your mobile phone’ heading.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop with your twitter and adding your phone number adventures! Its a shame it didn’t quiet work according to plan…
Thanks for the comment and let us know how you go!
