As twitter provides an open door to information sharing and a though stream on almost anything possible, it becomes an overwhelming task to compute the enormous amount of information and data into something more manageable.
So how can you utilise twitter to it’s fullest? There are mountains of third party applications to help you analyse the raw data into insights and trends and provide you with an understanding of user behaviour on twitter.

But even if you use these research tools for professional use, using them as a ‘social’ twitter user and understanding the underlining movements and tracking twitter trends on twitter can be a real benefit, or just simply cool to know.
So to help you get started into becoming a twitter data jaganut, we’ve picked out some of the best twitter research tools to try.
Trendrr
Trendrr is great for tracking twitter search and comparing information. It tracks statistics on multiple social media platforms, but for Twitter, its Twitter Search graphs are invaluable - they provide graphing of keyword mentions on an hourly basis.
Tweetmeme
Tweetmee is udeal for researching twitter trends. Although it won’t provide you with a visual graph, it provides retweeting statistics for articles and link sharing on twitter. There are other third party apps out there that do similar things to Tweetmeme such as Retweetist, but we recommended it over the others apps.
Tweeterland tip: If your after a twitter tool that tracks twitter trend and proints out a snazzy graph, try Twist.
TweetStats
TweetStats is a great tool for researching individual behaviour on twitter. TweetStats will print out a nice graph based on your information on how ofter you tweet, when you tweet, and your @reply habits. It’s a great tool for seeing twitter trends od individual account or a fascinating insight into how you use twitter.

Xefer Twitter Charts
Xefer twitter charts is a twitter research tool useful for indvidual user research. Xefer graphs tweets and @replies using Yahoo Pipes and Google Charts to display hour-by-hour information. Xefer will even chart all the @replies a tweeter has ever posted and will sort by person. One of our personal favorites.
Twellow
Our last but not least recommendation for twitter research tools is twellow, ideal for use to track and industry, niche topic or hobby. Twellow will organise tweets categorically and will even sort and find users by location. Twellow is great for tracking popular tweeple within an industry on twitter.
